Vehicle Information
Yamaha FZR400 Motorcycle - Street (1988-1990)
The Yamaha FZR400, an iconic sportbike produced from 1988 to 1990, is renowned for its agile performance and advanced engineering. All models during this period were powered by a 399cc liquid-cooled, four-stroke, transverse four-cylinder DOHC engine with 4 valves per cylinder. This engine, combined with an aluminum Deltabox frame, offered exceptional rigidity and handling for its time. While there were no distinct generational breaks, the FZR400 benefited from continuous refinements. Notable updates included the integration of the EXUP exhaust system on some performance trims (SP/RR-SP) and brake upgrades, moving from 2-piston calipers to 4-piston calipers on some 1990 models. The swingarm was also upgraded to a stronger Deltabox aluminum design in 1990. Horsepower varied slightly by trim, from 59 hp to 66 hp for the FZR400RR-SP. FAQ:
