Vehicle Information
Ski-Doo Formula Plus 583 Snowmobile (1992-1993)
The Ski-Doo Formula Plus 583, produced from 1992 to 1993, is powered by a liquid-cooled Rotax twin engine, primarily with a 583cc displacement. The 1992 models featured a 581cc engine, an innovative C7 rear suspension, a wider ski stance for improved handling, a redesigned seat, and a larger fuel tank. The 1993 model year brought significant advancements and trim variations. The Formula Plus EFI introduced Ski-Doo's first electronic fuel injection system (581cc, Mikuni EFI), identifiable by its red seat, though early versions experienced some issues. The limited-edition Formula Plus X (also 581cc) offered enhanced performance with a revised rotary intake, dual Mikuni TM-38 carburetors, RAVE, and Fox shocks. A standard carbureted 580cc Formula Plus was also available. These changes represent a notable evolution within the model's short production run. Q: How do I ensure this part fits my specific Formula Plus 583?
A: To guarantee compatibility, please use the year and edition selector at the top of this page. This will filter parts specifically for your snowmobile.
Maintenance
| Component | Interval | Details |
| 2-stroke injection oil | Before every ride | Check reservoir and keep full. Running out of oil can severely damage the engine. |
| Oil Filter | Not applicable | 2-stroke engines use an oil injection system, not a traditional oil filter like 4-stroke engines. |
| Drive Belt | Inspection: every 50 hours or before every ride. Replacement: 2,400 to 4,800 km | Inspect frequently for wear (fraying, glazing, cracking). Replace at the first signs. Lifespan varies significantly with riding style and conditions. |
| Spark Plugs | Inspect regularly | Inspect for carbon buildup and replace if worn. It is advisable to carry a plug wrench and extra spark plugs. |
| Air Filter | Check regularly | Check the airbox and intake for snow, ice, or debris. Replace the air filter if it's too dirty. |
| Coolant | Check regularly. Replace every 2 years | For liquid-cooled engines, check the coolant level and condition regularly. |
