Vehicle Information
Yamaha XT500 Motorcycle - Dual-Sport (1976-1981)
The Yamaha XT500, produced from 1976 to 1981, was a popular enduro-adventure motorcycle known for its robust 499cc air-cooled, four-stroke, single-cylinder engine. This iconic dual-sport machine offered reliable performance and versatility for both on-road and off-road adventures. While the fundamental 499cc SOHC two-valve engine design remained consistent, the XT500 underwent several significant iterations impacting component fitment. Notably, the frames changed across series (C/D, E/F, G/H), making parts like seats and fuel tanks non-interchangeable. Early models (1976) featured a low-mounted exhaust, which became high-mounted from 1977 onwards. In 1980, the XT500 received a major update with an aluminum fuel tank replacing the steel one, a redesigned seat, and the introduction of electronic ignition (also for 1981 models). The 1981 model further benefited from increased front fork and rear suspension travel. Production of the original XT500 concluded in 1981. Q: Will this part fit my Yamaha XT500?
A: To ensure perfect compatibility, please use the year and edition selector on this page. The XT500 underwent several frame and bodywork changes between 1976 and 1981.
