Vehicle Information
Harley-Davidson Roadster Motorcycle - Street (1978-2020)
The Harley-Davidson Roadster, a performance-oriented variant within the larger Sportster family, was produced from 1978 to 2020. While the Sportster line existed throughout this period (e.g., the 1978 XL-1000), the specific "Roadster" designation as a distinct model or trim primarily emerged in the early 2000s. All models featured an air-cooled Evolution V-twin engine. The Roadster's evolution saw several key phases. The XL883R Sportster Roadster (2002-2015) offered an 883cc engine, characterized by racing-inspired features. A significant update in 2004 introduced rubber-mounted engines across the Sportster line, including the 883R, to reduce vibration. In 2007, all Sportster models, including the Roadster, transitioned from carburetion to Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI). The XL1200R Sportster Roadster (approx. 2004-2008) provided a 1200cc option with similar performance focus. The final iteration, the XL1200CX Roadster (2016-2020), was a distinct model with a café-racer style, featuring inverted front forks, dual disc brakes, and an aggressive stance. Production of the Roadster ended in 2020, preceding the introduction of the Revolution Max engine in the Sportster S. FAQ:
