BMW R100RT Motorcycle - Street (1978-1995)
The BMW R100RT, a distinguished touring motorcycle, was produced from 1978 to 1995. Throughout its production, it featured a 980cc air-cooled, four-stroke, twin-cylinder boxer engine. This model underwent several significant updates, particularly in its engine output and chassis design. Early models (1978-1985) typically produced around 70 hp. Following a brief hiatus, the R100RT was reintroduced in 1987 with a Monolever single-sided swingarm rear suspension, replacing the earlier dual shock system. These Monolever models (1987-1995) saw a reduced engine output of approximately 60 hp, partly due to smaller carburetors and emissions regulations. Other notable changes included updates to the braking system (from ATE to Brembo), the introduction of electronic ignition from 1980, and a lighter flywheel engine in the early 1980s.
