Vehicle Information
Ski-Doo Grand Touring 583 Snowmobile (1997-1999)
The Ski-Doo Grand Touring 583, produced from 1997 to 1999, was a popular snowmobile designed for comfortable touring and two-up riding. It consistently featured a reliable 581cc liquid-cooled Rotax twin engine across all model years. This engine was known for its smooth, dependable performance and strong acceleration, making it well-suited for long rides. While exact horsepower figures for the stock Grand Touring 583 are not consistently available, the Rotax 583 engine is generally associated with approximately 97 horsepower. Standard or available features like electric start, reverse, plush seating, and passenger hand warmers enhanced the touring experience. Throughout its 1997-1999 production, the 583cc engine itself saw no significant mid-cycle generation changes, maintaining its core platform. The "Grand Touring 583" was a specific model within the broader Grand Touring series, which also offered other engine sizes like the 500cc and larger options in the SE trim. Q: How can I confirm parts compatibility for my Ski-Doo Grand Touring 583?
A: To ensure you select the correct parts, please use the year and edition selector at the top of this page.
Maintenance
| Component | Interval | Details |
| Oil Filter (oil injection system) | Not specified | The oil injection system does not contain a traditional oil filter. The injection system filter is a serviceable item, but no specific replacement interval is provided. |
| Drive Belt | Inspect before every ride; replace if worn. Replace every 2 400 to 4 800 km or every 1 to 3 years. | Check for wear (cracking, flat spots, fraying) and tension. The owner's manual will outline the process for checking and setting proper belt tension and height. |
| Spark Plug | Annually | Generally replace before the start of the season. More frequently with hard use. |
| Air Filter | Not specified | Inspect and clean regularly as needed. Ensure the air box is clean and dry. Shake out snow and dry the filter. |
| Coolant | Every 2 years | Use manufacturer-specified coolant. Some sources suggest 3-5 years if coolant is in good condition. Ensure proper refilling and bleeding of the system. |
