Vehicle Information
Harley-Davidson Softail Springer Motorcycle - Street (1988-2011)
The Harley-Davidson Softail Springer, produced from 1988 to 2011, is a distinctive motorcycle known for its retro-inspired springer front end and hidden-shock Softail rear suspension. Over its production run, it was powered by several engine generations, including the Evolution, Twin Cam 88B, Twin Cam 96B, and Twin Cam 110B for CVO models. Significant updates occurred, notably in 2000 with the introduction of the Twin Cam 88B engine and a redesigned Softail frame, which included improved geometry and a strengthened backbone. In 2007, standard models upgraded to the Twin Cam 96B engine and a new 6-speed transmission, with electronic fuel injection becoming standard across all Big Twin models. CVO versions from 2007 to 2009 featured the larger Twin Cam 110B engine. Various trims like the FXSTS, FLSTS Heritage Springer, FLSTSC Springer Classic, and FLSTSB Cross Bones offered distinct styling and features throughout these years. FAQ:

Maintenance
| Component | Interval | Details |
| Engine Oil and Oil Filter | Initial: 1,600 km. Subsequent: Every 8,000 km. | |
| Primary Chaincase Lubricant | Initial: 1,600 km. Subsequent: Every 16,000 km. | Some owners may choose to change it every 8,000 km for convenience, aligning with engine oil changes. |
| Transmission Lubricant | Initial: 1,600 km. Subsequent: Every 32,000 km. | Similar to primary lubricant, some may change it every 8,000 km. |
| Belt (Rear Drive) | Inspection and adjustment at 1,600 km, then typically every 4,000 km or 8,000 km. | Belts are designed for long life and generally require inspection for wear, cracking, missing teeth, or fraying rather than routine replacement at fixed mileage intervals. |
| Spark Plugs | Inspection at 1,600 km, then at subsequent service intervals (e.g., every 8,000 km). Replacement every two years or 48,000 km, whichever comes first. | |
| Air Filter | Inspection and service (clean or replace as required) at 1,600 km, then every 8,000 km. | Washable air filters should be cleaned at least at every service interval and replaced if corrosion is visible or if they can no longer be cleaned effectively. Paper (disposable) filters should be replaced when dirty. More frequent inspection and cleaning may be necessary in dusty or off-road conditions. |
| Coolant | Not applicable | Harley-Davidson Softail models from 1988 to 2011 are typically air-cooled and do not use liquid coolant. Therefore, coolant maintenance is generally not applicable to these models. |
