Vehicle Information
KTM 250 XC-W Dirt Bike (2006-2026)
The KTM 250 XC-W, produced from 2006 to 2026, is a renowned 249cc two-stroke off-road enduro motorcycle, celebrated for its performance and agility. Throughout its production, it has maintained its core identity while undergoing significant technological advancements in fuel delivery, chassis, and suspension. The engine displacement has consistently been 249cc. Horsepower for carbureted models (2006-2017) was not officially published, but later Transfer Port Injection (TPI) and Throttle Body Injection (TBI) versions are approximated at 50+ HP. The model's evolution can be broadly categorized into three main eras. From 2006 to 2017, the XC-W featured a carbureted engine, with notable updates including a gear-driven counterbalancer and WP Xplor 48 fork in 2017. The 2018-2023 period introduced Transfer Port Injection (TPI), a major shift eliminating premixing and enhancing efficiency, alongside continuous refinements to suspension and chassis. A significant overhaul occurred in 2024, ushering in the Throttle Body Injection (TBI) system, a new chassis, and the advanced WP XACT closed-cartridge coil-spring fork, marking a new generation of performance. Special editions like the "Six Days" model have also been offered, featuring upgraded components. Q: How do I ensure I'm selecting the correct parts for my KTM 250 XC-W?
A: Always use the year and edition selector on this page to find parts specifically designed for your motorcycle's exact configuration.
Maintenance
| Component | Interval | Details |
| Engine Oil & Oil Filter | Every 10-15 hours for recreational riding, or every 5-10 hours for aggressive riding. | High-quality oil and changing the filter during each oil change are recommended to prolong engine life and performance. |
| Air Filter | Every 5-15 hours for recreational riding, or every 2-10 hours for aggressive riding, depending on dust and debris exposure. | Inspect regularly, especially after riding in dusty conditions, and clean or replace as necessary to ensure proper airflow and engine efficiency. |
| Spark Plug | Every 40 operating hours. | Always use the recommended spark plug type and follow torque specifications. A faulty spark plug can prevent the motorcycle from starting. |
| Chain | Every 5 hours. | Regularly clean and lubricate the chain to ensure smooth operation and prevent wear. Adjust tension as necessary. |
| Coolant | Check level every 10-40 operating hours; change every 24 months. | Inspect hoses for leaks to prevent overheating. If overheating occurs, check the coolant level, inspect for leaks, and clean the radiator. |
