KTM 300 XC-W Dirt Bike (2006-2026)
The KTM 300 XC-W, an iconic off-road motorcycle, has been a staple in the enduro and cross-country segments from 2006 to 2026. Known for its potent 2-stroke engine, consistently around 293cc, it delivers strong, usable power, typically ranging from 47 to 55 horsepower, making it highly effective across varied terrains. It features a wide-ratio gearbox and PDS suspension, optimized for trail riding. Over its production run, the 300 XC-W has seen significant evolution. Key updates include the standardization of electric start in 2008, and a major redesign in 2017 with an all-new engine architecture and chassis. The most notable changes concern fuel delivery: it transitioned from carburetion (Keihin then Mikuni) to Transfer Port Injection (TPI) in 2018, and then to Throttle Body Injection (TBI) in 2024, enhancing efficiency and performance. Special trims like the Erzbergrodeo, Hardenduro, Factory, and Champion Editions have also been offered, featuring enhanced components for extreme riding. Maintenance
| Component | Interval | Details |
| Gearbox Oil (Transmission Oil) | First change after 5 to 10 hours, then every 10 to 20 hours, or up to 40 hours maximum depending on riding conditions. | For 2-stroke engines, gearbox oil is separate from engine lubrication (fuel/oil mix). The drain plug is often magnetic. |
| Oil Filter | Not applicable | 2-stroke models do not have a replaceable engine oil filter. Clean the magnetic drain plug during gearbox oil changes. |
| Belt | Not applicable | The KTM 300 XC-W uses a chain drive system, not a belt. |
| Spark Plug | Check and adjust every 20 hours. Replace every 20 to 40 hours depending on model and usage. | |
| Air Filter | Clean and lubricate after every ride or every 10 to 15 hours. More frequently in extreme or race conditions. | |
| Coolant | Check level before each ride. Replace annually or every 2 years, or if contaminated. |
