Vehicle Information
KTM 990 SMT Motorcycle - Street (2010-2013)
The KTM 990 SMT (Supermoto Travel), produced from 2010 to 2013, masterfully combined supermoto agility with touring comfort. Powered by a consistent 999cc (also known as 990cc) liquid-cooled, 75-degree V-twin LC8 engine, it delivered 114-116 hp and approximately 97 Nm of torque. This model was designed for riders seeking versatility, offering a unique blend of performance and long-distance capability. Throughout its 2010-2013 production, the 990 SMT maintained a single core trim, distinguishing itself as the touring variant within the Supermoto line. While the platform remained largely consistent, the 2011 model year introduced significant updates, including the addition of ABS, revised suspension settings (lower front fork oil level, firmer rear spring), and updated bodywork. The engine's core specifications remained, but its tuning was specific to the SMT for a broader, more touring-friendly powerband. Q: How do I ensure I'm selecting the correct parts for my KTM 990 SMT?
A: Please use our year and edition selector at the top of the page to filter for parts specifically compatible with your motorcycle's model year.
Maintenance
| Component | Interval | Details |
| Engine Oil and Oil Filter | Every 7 200 km | Change engine oil and all three oil filters/strainers. Use high-quality synthetic 10W-50 or 15W-50 oil, meeting KTM specifications. |
| Drive Chain | Every 500 km or as needed | Clean and lubricate the drive chain. The KTM 990 SMT uses a chain, not a belt. |
| Spark Plugs | Every 15 000 km | Replace spark plugs. Recommended type: NGK DCPR 8 E, electrode gap 0.8 mm. |
| Air Filter | Every 15 000 km | Replace air filter. Typically performed during a major service. |
| Coolant | Every 30 000 km | Replace coolant. The system requires 2.1 liters of a 50% antifreeze / 50% distilled water mixture, protecting down to -25°C. |
| Valve Clearance | Every 16 000 km | Check and adjust valve clearance. The interval was extended for 2011 and later models due to a cylinder head modification. |
