Vehicle Information
Triumph Thunderbird Motorcycle - Street (1982-2017)
The Triumph Thunderbird, produced between 1982 and 2017, boasts a rich and complex history, characterized by distinct generations rather than continuous production. This iconic nameplate was used for three different motorcycle lines during this period.
The first iteration, the TR65 Thunderbird (1982-1983), was powered by a 649 cc air-cooled parallel-twin engine, delivering 42 hp. It saw minor updates like the MkII with polished cases and a rev counter.
After a hiatus, the Thunderbird 900 (1995-2004) marked Triumph's revival, featuring an 885 cc liquid-cooled in-line 3-cylinder engine. The standard model offered 69-70 hp, while the sportier Thunderbird Sport (1998-2004) boasted an upgraded engine with 82-83 hp.
The name was reintroduced in 2009 for a new line of parallel-twin cruisers. The Thunderbird 1600 (2009-2016) came with a 1597 cc engine (85-86 hp). From 2011, the 1699 cc engine was introduced in models like the Storm (97-98 hp), and later the Commander and LT (93-94 hp from 2014), which also received a new chassis. Q: How do I ensure I select the correct parts for my Thunderbird?
A: Due to the significant generational differences, always use our year and model selector to find parts specifically designed for your Triumph Thunderbird.
