The Can-Am Defender HD9, offered from 2022 to 2026, is a robust utility side-by-side known for its reliability and versatility. It features a 976cc Rotax V-twin engine, consistently delivering 65 horsepower and 59 lb-ft of torque, paired with a PRO-TORQ CVT transmission. This powertrain ensures strong performance for work and recreation, enhanced by features like an Extra-Low range and Electronic Drive Belt Protection. The HD9 engine was a significant introduction in 2022, replacing the HD8 and boosting horsepower by 30%. Its specifications remained consistent throughout the 2022-2026 period, focusing on class-leading power, low-end torque, and a comfortable ride with reduced noise and vibration. While the HD9 model itself did not undergo a generation break, the broader Defender lineup saw the introduction of the new HD11 engine in 2026, offering 95 horsepower and a redesigned platform.
