Vehicle Information
Kawasaki KLR250 Motorcycle - Dual-Sport (1978-2005)
The Kawasaki KLR250 series, a versatile dual-sport motorcycle, was produced from 1978 to 2005. All models featured a 249 cc, four-stroke, single-cylinder engine. The series saw a significant evolution, starting with the air-cooled KL250 models (KL250-A from 1978-1982, KL250-C from 1983-1984) before a radical overhaul. The most notable generational change occurred in 1984-1985 with the introduction of the KLR250 (KL250-D). This new version featured a liquid-cooled, DOHC, four-valve engine, along with new suspensions, a different frame, and a front disc brake, marking a substantial upgrade from its air-cooled predecessors. Horsepower varied, with early KL250-A models producing 21 hp, while the KLR250 initially offered 28 hp. For U.S. models from 1990 onwards, horsepower was adjusted to 23 hp due to a cam profile change. The KLR250 (KL250-D) remained largely consistent in its design from 1985 until its discontinuation in 2005. Q: How do I find parts for my specific KLR250 model year?
A: Please use the year and edition selector at the top of the page to ensure compatibility with your motorcycle.
