Vehicle Information
Kawasaki Ninja 600R Motorcycle - Street (1985-1997)
The Kawasaki Ninja 600R was a prominent middleweight sportbike produced from 1985 to 1997. In North America, it was consistently known as the Ninja 600R, while in Europe, it was marketed as the GPZ600R (1985-1990) and later as the GPX600R (1988-1997). Throughout its production, it featured a liquid-cooled, DOHC, 16-valve inline-four engine, typically around 592-598 cc.
A significant mid-cycle evolution occurred with the introduction of the GPX600R in 1988, which also became the Ninja 600R in North America. This update brought engine enhancements like lightweight components and a higher compression ratio, initially boosting horsepower from 75 hp (GPZ) to 84-85 hp. The GPX also received a new double-cradle steel frame, an updated suspension system (ESCS), and more efficient 2-piston brake calipers. Later GPX models saw power detuned to around 77 hp to comply with stricter emissions and noise regulations. While the GPX600R continued until 1997, the distinct ZX-6R was introduced in 1995 as its successor.
