Vehicle Information
Honda PA50 Scooter (1978-1983)
The Honda PA50, widely known as the Honda Hobbit in North America, was a popular moped produced from 1978 to 1983 for the US market. This lightweight and economical two-wheeler was powered by a reliable 49 cc air-cooled, two-stroke, single-cylinder engine, making it an ideal choice for urban commuting and casual rides. It featured an automatic clutch with a single-speed Variomatic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) system, ensuring smooth and effortless operation. During its production run, the PA50 saw key distinctions primarily between the PA50I and PA50II models. The PA50I, available from 1978 to 1979, was a restricted version designed to comply with 32 km/h speed limits, featuring specific carburetion and exhaust components. The PA50II, offered throughout the entire 1978-1983 period, was an unrestricted model capable of reaching 48 km/h, thanks to a larger carburetor venturi and different jetting. Furthermore, early models used a breaker-point ignition system, which was updated to a more modern Capacitor Discharge Ignition (CDI) system from 1981 onwards, improving reliability and reducing maintenance. Cosmetic updates, including a more comfortable seat, were introduced in 1983, but the core mechanicals remained consistent. Q: How do I know which parts fit my Honda PA50?
