The BMW R45, produced from 1978 to 1985, was an entry-level standard motorcycle. It featured an air-cooled, four-stroke, horizontally opposed boxer twin engine with a 473 cc displacement. Its primary variations were in engine power output rather than distinct trim levels. While no major redesigns occurred, the R45 received evolutionary updates. In 1981, it gained electronic ignition, Nikasil-coated cylinders, a transistor ignition, and a geared one-plate clutch. Seat height and wheelbase also saw minor adjustments.
