Vehicle Information
Harley-Davidson Wide Glide Motorcycle - Street (1980-1986)
The Harley-Davidson Wide Glide, designated as the FXWG, was offered from 1980 to 1986 as a single primary model, embodying a "factory custom" aesthetic. During this period, the model underwent a significant engine change from the Shovelhead to the Evolution engine. From 1980 to 1984, Wide Glide models were equipped with an 80-cubic-inch (1340cc) Shovelhead V-twin engine, generally producing around 67 HP at 5800 rpm. In 1985, the Wide Glide transitioned to the 81-cubic-inch (1340cc) Evolution engine. Horsepower was listed at 63 HP for 1985 and 69 HP for 1986. This engine change, introduced in 1985, marked a notable improvement in reliability and performance. Interestingly, the 1985 model combined the new Evolution engine with a 4-speed Shovelhead transmission in a Shovelhead FX frame. The 1986 FXWG was the last big twin to feature a kickstarter and a 4-speed transmission. The Wide Glide maintained its distinctive FX Big Twin platform, characterized by its wide-glide fork spacing. No other distinct "trims" were explicitly offered for the Wide Glide during these years, with the FXWG representing the sole model. FAQ:
