The Arctic Cat Trail Cat 440, produced for the 1980 and 1981 model years, was a popular snowmobile known for its reliable 440cc fan-cooled Suzuki engine. It offered riders a capable machine for trail use during its brief production run. In 1980, the Trail Cat was available with either a 340cc or a 440cc engine, with the larger displacement sometimes referred to as the "Trail Cat 4000." This inaugural year saw improvements in assembly, the inclusion of stock track studs, new handlebars, and multi-hued trim. A re-engineered plastic rear storage compartment was also introduced, though it proved problematic. For 1981, the 340cc engine option was discontinued, making the 440cc engine standard.
