Vehicle Information
Polaris Sportsman 500 ATV (1996-2013)
The Polaris Sportsman 500, produced from 1996 to 2013, was a highly regarded utility ATV known for its robust performance and versatility. Throughout its long production run, it consistently featured a single-cylinder, 4-stroke, liquid-cooled engine with a displacement of 498cc or 499cc. While the core engine size remained constant, Polaris introduced significant enhancements and various trims to cater to diverse needs. Key developments included the introduction of the 500 H.O. (High Output) engine around 2001, featuring a more aggressive cam and larger carburetor for increased power. Later, 500 EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection) models were launched, replacing carburetors for improved throttle response and efficiency. Chassis and component upgrades also occurred, such as improved rear brakes around 1998, a transition from U-joints to CV joints in rear driveshafts in 1999, and the standardization of Engine Braking System (EBS) around 2000. Despite these technical evolutions, the main body style remained largely consistent until approximately 2003 or 2004. Trims included the Standard, H.O., EFI, Touring, X2, and 6x6 variants. FAQ:
