Vehicle Information
Yamaha IT400 Motorcycle - Dual-Sport (1976-1979)
The Yamaha IT400 is an iconic enduro motorcycle produced from 1976 to 1979. Designed as a factory-modified version of the YZ400 motocross bike, it was built for enduro riding. Each year saw the introduction of a distinct model (IT400C, D, E, F), all powered by an air-cooled, two-stroke, single-cylinder engine of approximately 396-397 cc. Throughout its production run, the IT400 received several enhancements. The 1977 model (IT400D) introduced a lengthened connecting rod and piston for improved durability, along with a redesigned exhaust system to optimize low-end power. In 1978 (IT400E), the bike was further refined for enduro riding with long-travel leading-axle front forks (21.5 cm) and a rear monoshock (18.5 cm). The final year, 1979 (IT400F), incorporated advanced YZ technology and a notable change in engine bore and stroke dimensions (82 mm x 75 mm). FAQ:
