Vehicle Information
Kawasaki KZ1000 Motorcycle - Street (1977-2005)
The Kawasaki KZ1000, produced from 1977 to 2005, established itself as a powerful and versatile motorcycle, widely used even as a police vehicle. This air-cooled, DOHC inline-four machine underwent several key evolutions throughout its long production run. A significant generation break occurred in 1981 with the introduction of the "J-model" engine. Early models (1977-1981) featured a 1,015 cc engine, while the J-model (1981-2005) saw its displacement reduced to 998 cc to comply with superbike racing rules. This change also brought a remodeled crankshaft, new pistons, and a stiffer frame. Other notable developments included the introduction of shaft drive options in 1979-1980 and Kawasaki's first mass-produced fuel-injected motorcycle, the Z1000H, in 1980. While civilian models largely concluded production around 1984, the robust KZ1000P police model continued to be manufactured until 2005. FAQ:
