Vehicle Information
Kawasaki KLX650 Motorcycle - Dual-Sport (1993-1996)
The Kawasaki KLX650, produced from 1993 to 1996, was a versatile dual-sport motorcycle offered in two main trims: the street-legal KLX650C and the off-road focused KLX650R (also known as the A model). Both shared a robust 651cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, DOHC, 4-valve engine. The KLX650C was designed for road use, featuring an electric start and a slightly heavier build. Its engine output varied slightly, with 48 hp in 1993 and 1995-1996, and 45 hp in 1994. In contrast, the KLX650R was a lighter, more powerful, kick-start only version, optimized for off-road performance with racier valve timing, carburetor modifications, and a less restricted exhaust. It also boasted stiffer forks with more travel and a more compact frame. While the core 651cc engine remained consistent, the R model utilized an aluminum barrel without a sleeve, unlike the C model's steel barrel. The KLX650R (A model) evolved into the D model in 1996 for some markets, and an Australian-specific B model was introduced. The C model was discontinued after 1996. FAQ:
