The Kawasaki 550 LTD, produced from 1980 to 1984, is a custom/cruiser style motorcycle that defined its era. It was powered by a consistent 553cc DOHC inline-four, four-stroke engine across all its trims and model years. While the 553cc engine displacement remained constant, horsepower figures and specific features evolved. The range saw the introduction of the GPz version in 1981, a sportier variant featuring higher compression, more aggressive camshafts, and a bikini fairing. In 1982, some GPz models adopted a monoshock rear suspension and improved brakes, often with twin front discs. The year 1983 brought the shaft-driven KZ550M LTD, featuring different engine castings and carburetors, as well as the "Spectre" version (KZ550F) which presented cosmetic differences and modified cylinder heads.
