The Kawasaki Zephyr 550, produced from 1990 to 1993, was a retro-styled standard motorcycle. It was powered by an air-cooled, 553 cc inline-four engine, delivering approximately 49 to 50 horsepower. This four-stroke, transverse four-cylinder, DOHC unit with 2 valves per cylinder was derived from the GPZ550, de-tuned for mid-range power. Throughout its production, the Zephyr 550 was primarily offered as a single model, the ZR550B, with yearly updates rather than distinct trim levels. Its "naked retro roadster" styling remained consistent. A notable change occurred in the rear braking system during the 1993 model year. While earlier models (1990-1992 and potentially early 1993) featured a single 240 mm disc with a 2-piston caliper, some 1993 models and subsequent years adopted a 1-piston caliper for the same disc size.
