The Suzuki DR-Z400 series, produced from 2000 to 2024, has been a consistent presence in the dual-sport and supermoto markets. It is known for its reliable 398cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, DOHC engine. Throughout this period, the engine maintained a bore and stroke of 90.0 mm x 62.6 mm, a compression ratio of 11.3:1, and utilized a Mikuni BSR36 carburetor for fuel delivery. The DR-Z400 is notable for its remarkable consistency and lack of significant mid-cycle generation or engine changes between 2000 and 2024. The core engine design remained largely unchanged. The most significant updates were the introduction of the DR-Z400SM supermoto model in 2005, which featured 17-inch wheels, larger brakes, and inverted front forks, and an update to the DR-Z400S front suspension in 2002 to cartridge forks.
