It featured a liquid-cooled, DOHC, inline-four engine with a displacement of 646 cc, producing between 112 and 114 horsepower. This single model was offered in two color options: Racing Yellow or Tornado Red. The 2005 Daytona 650 represented a significant mid-cycle engine change from its predecessor, the Daytona 600. Its engine displacement was increased from 600 cc to 646 cc by lengthening the stroke, primarily aimed at boosting midrange power. Additionally, the 2005 Daytona 650 featured a revised clutch, a new shift linkage, and reprogrammed fuel injection.
