Vehicle Information
Yamaha Blaster 200 ATV (1988-2006)
The Yamaha Blaster 200, produced from 1988 to 2006, was a highly popular entry-level sport ATV renowned for its lightweight design and potent two-stroke engine. Powered by a 195cc (often called 200cc) single-cylinder, air-cooled, two-stroke engine, it delivered approximately 17 HP, with some reports suggesting up to 18-22 HP. This ATV featured a 6-speed manual transmission and a reliable kick-start system, making it a favorite among enthusiasts for its performance and simplicity. Throughout its long production run, the Blaster remained largely consistent. However, two notable updates occurred. In 2002, the rear taillight was revised to a multi-functional tail and brake light. More significantly, 2003 brought a re-styled front nose, with the headlight assembly moving from the handlebars to the nose of the ATV. Crucially, the mechanical drum brakes, both front and rear, were upgraded to more effective dual hydraulic disc brakes at the front and a single hydraulic disc brake at the rear, greatly improving stopping power and simplifying maintenance. Some weight was also removed to enhance performance. For its final year, 2006, a distinct YFS200SE Blaster Special Edition trim was offered. Q: Will parts for a 2003 Blaster fit my 1999 model?
A: The Yamaha Blaster 200 received significant updates in 2003, particularly to its braking system and front bodywork. To ensure perfect compatibility, please use our year and edition selector on this page.
Maintenance
| Component | Interval | Details |
| Oil Filter | Annually | The Blaster 200's two-stroke engine does not use a traditional engine oil filter. It is lubricated by oil/fuel mix or oil injection. Transmission oil should be changed annually. |
| Drive Belt | Not applicable | The Yamaha Blaster 200 is chain-driven, not belt-driven. Therefore, there is no drive belt to maintain or replace. The drive chain should be inspected and lubricated regularly. |
| Spark Plug | Annually or every 100 hours | Inspect and replace periodically. The standard model is typically an NGK BR8ES. |
| Air Filter | Inspection every 10-15 hours or more often in dusty conditions. Replacement every 20-30 hours (2006 models) or more often in dusty conditions. | Clean and re-oil regularly. Replace if worn, damaged, or remains dirty after cleaning. Check after each ride in very dusty conditions. |
| Coolant | Not applicable | The Yamaha Blaster 200 is an air-cooled engine and therefore does not use liquid coolant. Maintenance related to a cooling system does not apply to this model. |
