Vehicle Information
Yamaha YZ400F Dirt Bike (1998-1999)
The Yamaha YZ400F, a groundbreaking four-stroke motocross bike, marked a significant turning point in the sport. Offered for the 1998 and 1999 model years, it featured a liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC 5-valve, single-cylinder 399cc engine. This engine, based on road racing machines, was designed to rev quickly and offer smooth, long-pulling power delivery. The 39mm Keihin FCR carburetor with an accelerator pump was also a key technological advancement for its time, providing excellent throttle response. While the engine and chassis geometry remained largely unchanged, the 1999 model received several refinements compared to the 1998 model. These included a slightly upsized axle, upgraded wheels with improved spokes and Tagasago Excel rims for increased strength, repositioned foot pegs, and a 20 mm larger rear brake rotor for enhanced braking power. No distinct trims were offered during these years, with the focus being on the revolutionary nature of the four-stroke motocrosser itself. FAQ:
