Vehicle Information
BMW R65 Motorcycle - Street (1978-1987)
The BMW R65, a light touring motorcycle, was introduced by BMW in 1978 and saw several iterations through 1987. It was designed to offer a mid-sized option in BMW's product line. All R65 models during this period were powered by a 648 cc or 649 cc air-cooled flat-twin (boxer) engine, featuring overhead valves and two valves per cylinder. Significant changes marked its production. In 1981, the standard engine's power increased from 44 hp to 50 hp, with the introduction of breaker-less electronic ignition, Nikasil cylinders, and larger valves. A major generational break occurred in 1985 with the integration of the R65 engine into a Monolever (single rear shock) chassis, shared with the R80, thus altering the suspension and frame. Several trims were offered, including the standard R65, the sportier R65LS, and Monolever variants like the R65GS (dual-sport) and R65 RT (touring). Q: Is this part compatible with my BMW R65?
A: To ensure compatibility, please use our year and trim selector at the top of the page.
