Kawasaki Ninja 900R Motorcycle - Street (1984-1986)
The Kawasaki Ninja 900R, also known as the GPZ900R (ZX900A), was a pioneering sportbike produced from 1984 to 2003, and the first motorcycle to carry the "Ninja" name in North America. For the 1984-1986 period, this model featured a 908 cc liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC inline-four engine with 16 valves. While not having distinct "trims" in the modern sense, the Ninja 900R saw several updates across its initial model years. The 1984 ZX900A-1 introduced a 16-inch front wheel and anti-dive forks. The 1985 ZX900A-2 brought new graphics, color options, and a revised top shock mount bolt, addressing earlier oil feed concerns. For 1986, the ZX900A-3 incorporated a carburetor heating circuit to prevent icing, expanded the cylinder head oil line for better high-RPM cooling, and featured cosmetic changes like the "Ninja" name moving to the front cowl and silver front fork tubes.
