Vehicle Information
Polaris Indy Classic 500 Snowmobile (1989-2003)
The Polaris Indy Classic 500, produced from 1989 to 2003, was a highly popular snowmobile renowned for its reliable 488cc liquid-cooled twin-cylinder engine and comfortable features. Over its extensive production run, it saw several significant updates and trim variations. Initially introduced in 1989 with a new 488cc liquid-cooled twin engine, replacing an earlier triple, the model received continuous refinements. Key developments included the introduction of Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) on some variants by 1992, and the launch of the two-up Classic Touring model in 1993, which also brought a new ITS rear suspension. By 1994, the Indy 500 adopted the "Evolved body style," with the Classic gaining electric start and reverse. Later, Classic models utilized the "Gen II" chassis from 2000-2001. A notable engine change occurred in 2002, when the Classic Touring was offered with a 488cc fan-cooled engine, diverging from the standard liquid-cooled setup. The 2003 Classic model was listed with a 500cc displacement. FAQ:
