Vehicle Information
Moto-Ski Nuvik 340 Snowmobile (1975-1979)
The Moto-Ski Nuvik 340 is a classic snowmobile model produced from 1975 to 1979, renowned for its dependable performance. Primarily powered by Rotax fan-cooled twin-cylinder engines, this model offered a robust experience for winter enthusiasts. Throughout its production, the Nuvik 340 was available in various configurations, including the standard model and the Nuvik 340E, which featured an electric start option in select years like 1976, 1977, and 1979. A notable mid-cycle change occurred in 1978, when the Nuvik 340 was equipped with a 295cc Rotax twin engine, deviating from the 339cc engine used in other years. The 1979 model then reverted to the 339cc Rotax engine. Additionally, following Bombardier's acquisition of Moto-Ski in 1975, models from 1976 onwards began to incorporate Bombardier's design influence, including a smooth slide rail suspension and a 120-inch track, while retaining some unique Nuvik characteristics. Q: How do I ensure I select the correct parts for my Moto-Ski Nuvik 340?
A: To guarantee a perfect fit, please use the year and edition selector at the top of this page.
Maintenance
| Component | Interval | Details |
| Drive Belt | Check regularly; Replace every 2 400 to 4 800 km | Regularly inspect condition (cracks, fraying, uneven wear) and width. If width is less than 2.5 cm, contact a dealer. Periodically remove and clean the clutch. |
| Spark Plugs | At least once per season; Pre-season | Clean and inspect for wear or eroded electrodes. Replace if doubtful. Start the season with two fresh spark plugs. Adjust gap to 0.51 mm. Recommended type: Bosch W340S2S or equivalent. |
| Chaincase Oil | Lubricate chain every 25 hours; Check pre-season and every 50 hours; Change at end of season or annually | Lubricate drive chain with 'Moto-Ski Special Grease' (approx. 295 ml). Chaincase oil is distinct from engine oil. |
| General Lubrication | Every 25 hours (front axle bearings, driven pulley eccentric); Regularly (ski legs); Monthly or every 40 hours (steering, suspension) | Lubricate grease fittings until new grease appears. 2 to 3 shots of Moto-Ski grease for the eccentric. Lubricate more frequently in wet or severe conditions. |
| Fuel Mixture | Usage specification | Two-cycle engine requiring oil and gasoline mixture. For 1978 model: 19 litres of recommended gasoline + one can of 50:1 concentrated Bombardier snowmobile oil. Use correct mixture and avoid low-lead, non-leaded gasoline, naphtha, methanol, or straight mineral/outboard oils. |
| General Checks | Weekly; Before each ride; Regularly | Vehicle inspection for safe operation. Check fuel level, throttle, and brake operation. Check chaincase components condition and adjust chain tension if necessary. |
