Vehicle Information
Harley-Davidson Sportster XR1000 Motorcycle - Street (1983-1985)
The Harley-Davidson Sportster XR1000, produced for the 1983 and 1984 model years, was a distinctive, limited-production motorcycle. Inspired by the legendary XR750 flat-track racer, it featured an air-cooled, 998 cc (61 cubic inches) 45-degree V-twin engine. This unique engine combined a Sportster bottom end with special aluminum cylinder heads designed by Jerry Branch, equipped with two 36mm Dell'Orto pumper carburetors. It delivered approximately 70 to 71 horsepower. An optional racing kit could boost power to 90-95 HP. There were no significant mid-cycle generation or engine changes for the XR1000. The primary variations were cosmetic: the 1983 model was offered in a nondescript gray, while the 1984 model featured traditional black and orange racing colors. Production was limited, with about 1,018 units in 1983 and around 700-759 units in 1984. The XR1000 was discontinued after 1984. FAQ:
