Vehicle Information
Yamaha Seca 920 Motorcycle - Street (1981-1982)
The Yamaha Seca 920, specifically the XV920R model, was offered during the 1981 and 1982 model years. Positioned as a sport-touring motorcycle, it was powered by an air-cooled 920cc V-twin engine, producing 65 horsepower at 6,500 RPM, with consistent engine specifications across these two years. In 1981, the primary model was the XV920RH, featuring an enclosed chain final drive and available in Candy Metalflake Maroon. For 1982, the XV920RJ continued the sport-touring line with a similar chain drive, offered in silver with black trim in the US. The most significant distinction during this period was the introduction of the 1982 Yamaha XV920J Virago. While sharing the same basic engine, the Virago adopted a distinct cruiser style and, crucially, utilized a shaft final drive instead of a chain. It also featured differences in chassis, steering geometry, and wheel sizes. The Seca 920 (XV920R type) was discontinued in the US market after 1982. FAQ:
