Vehicle Information
KYMCO MXU 500 ATV (2006-2021)
The KYMCO MXU 500, a robust utility ATV produced from 2006 to 2021, consistently featured a single-cylinder, 4-stroke engine with a displacement of approximately 499cc. Over its production run, this model underwent key evolutions to enhance performance and rider comfort. Early models (around 2006-2011) were carbureted, typically offering around 36 horsepower. From approximately 2012-2013 onwards, Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) was introduced, denoted by the "i" suffix, which improved fuel efficiency and throttle response, with horsepower figures varying between 18 HP and 36 HP, and up to 33.5 HP for the 2021 MXU 500i EPS.
Another significant upgrade was the widespread adoption of Independent Rear Suspension (IRS), replacing earlier solid rear axles, notably from 2010-2012. This, coupled with a redesigned chassis around 2012-2013 that included an anti-sway bar and independent front and rear suspension, drastically improved handling and ride quality. Variations like "Camo" color options and "LE" (Limited Edition) models with added features were also offered. FAQ:
Q: How do I ensure parts compatibility for my specific MXU 500?
A: Due to variations in fuel systems, suspension, and chassis designs across the 2006-2021 range, please use our year/edition selector to find parts guaranteed to fit your exact model.
Maintenance
| Component | Interval | Details |
| Engine Oil and Oil Filter | Initial service: 150 km or 1 month. Thereafter: every 1,000 km or 6 months. | The oil filter must be replaced with every oil change. Clean the oil strainer during this service. Change oil and filter after the break-in period (10 hours or 320 km). |
| Spark Plug | Periodic inspection | Replace if electrode erosion is excessive. Spark plug gap should be 0.6-0.7 mm. Unleaded fuel recommended. |
| Air Filter | Regular cleaning | The air cleaner housing drain tube should be serviced according to schedule, and more frequently if riding through water. |
| Coolant | Regular inspection | Check coolant levels before each operation. Have antifreeze content checked by a KYMCO dealer if water is added. |
| Drive Belt (CVT) | Periodic inspection | Part of the CVT system, requires regular inspection and servicing. Replacement is mentioned in some manuals. |
