Harley-Davidson SS175 Motorcycle - Street (1974-1978)
The Harley-Davidson SS175, produced primarily from 1975 to 1977 with some 1978 models, was a street-oriented motorcycle developed during the AMF era as part of Harley-Davidson's Aermacchi-designed lightweight two-stroke lineup. This model was powered by a 174.1 cc single-cylinder, two-stroke, air-cooled engine, featuring a chrome bore and a 10.7:1 compression ratio, delivering 17.0 HP (12.4 kW) at 6750 RPM. Throughout its production from 1974 to 1978, the SS175 was offered as a single model without distinct trim levels. However, the 175cc platform saw notable changes. From 1976 onwards, the SS175 adopted a frame similar to its off-road counterpart, the SX175, moving from a 1974-1975 frame version to a 1976-1978 version. This change also meant the SS175, like the SX models, became a two-seater. Additionally, the Ceriani front fork was replaced by a Betor unit in 1976. The motorcycle consistently featured a 5-speed gearbox, CDI ignition, oil injection, and a 27mm Dell'Orto carburetor. FAQ:
