Yamaha MX360 Dirt Bike (1973-1974)
The Yamaha MX360, produced for the 1973 and 1974 model years, was a formidable off-road motocross motorcycle. It featured an air-cooled, two-stroke, single-cylinder engine with reed valve induction, boasting a displacement of 351 to 360 cc. This powerful engine, paired with a 5-speed transmission, delivered approximately 39 horsepower, making it a competitive machine on the track. The MX360 was designed specifically for off-road use, distinguishing it from its street-legal counterparts. For the 1973 and 1974 models, the Yamaha MX360 remained largely consistent. There were no significant mid-cycle generation or engine changes between these two years; differences were primarily cosmetic, such as color variations. The 1974 model is sometimes identified as the MX360A. Both years benefited from a newer engine design, incorporating a counterbalancer and CDI ignition system, and a redesigned frame inspired by European motocrossers, setting them apart from earlier MX models.
