Yamaha FX 140 1000 Personal Watercraft (2002-2004)
The Yamaha FX 140, produced from 2002 to 2004, was a pioneering personal watercraft, renowned as the world's first four-stroke PWC. This model established a new standard for performance and environmental responsibility in the industry. It was consistently powered by the robust MR-1 engine, a 4-stroke, 4-cylinder, fuel-injected DOHC unit with 5 valves per cylinder, delivering 140 HP from its 998 cc displacement. Throughout its 2002-2004 production, the FX 140 maintained its core engine specifications without mid-cycle changes. The primary model was available in 2002. In 2003, Yamaha introduced the FX 140 Cruiser trim, offering enhanced comfort features while retaining the same 140 HP engine. Both the FX 140 and FX 140 Cruiser were available in 2004. High Output (HO) models, introduced in 2004, featured a different, larger engine and are considered separate models, not a variation of the FX 140. Q: Is this product compatible with my Yamaha FX 140?
A: To ensure perfect fitment, please use the year and trim selector at the top of the page.
Maintenance
| Component | Interval | Details |
| Oil Filter | Every 200 hours or 2 years | Prioritize owner's manual interval. Some guidelines suggest annual replacement or every 50 hours. |
| Timing Belt | Every 1,000 hours or 10 years | For Yamaha 4-stroke engines. Some mechanics may suggest more frequent replacement (300-500 hours). |
| Spark Plugs | Every 100 hours or 12 months | Inspect, clean, adjust, and replace at this interval. |
| Air Filter | Every 100 hours or 12 months | Inspect and clean airbox. Replace filter as needed, especially if water intrusion is present. |
| Cooling System Flush | After every use | The FX 140 uses a raw-water cooling system. Flush passages with fresh water to prevent corrosion and contaminant buildup. |
