BMW K100RT Motorcycle - Street (1985-1988)
The BMW K100RT, produced from 1985 to 1988, is a touring motorcycle renowned for its 'Flying Brick' engine design. This model featured a 987cc liquid-cooled, in-line four-cylinder engine with a DOHC and fuel injection system. It produced 90 horsepower (66 kW) and 84 Nm of torque. The K100RT was characterized by its full touring fairing, tall windscreen, and side-mounted lockable panniers, making it a prime choice for long-distance travel. While the core 987cc engine remained consistent in displacement and horsepower for the K100RT throughout this period, some minor adjustments were made. Camshaft changes and a reduction in compression occurred between 1985 and 1986. Early 1985 models also saw revisions to the starter clutch and final drive breather vent. The fuel gauge system was improved in 1986. In 1988, minor updates included a slight reduction in fuel tank capacity from 22 to 21 liters and the relocation of the rear brake reservoir. A significant engine revision to a 16-valve version occurred in 1989, outside this specified year range. FAQ:
