Vehicle Information
Yamaha TY250 Dirt Bike (1974-1978)
The Yamaha TY250, a celebrated trials motorcycle, was produced from 1974 to 1978. Known for its responsive, torquey 246 cc (250cc) air-cooled, two-stroke, single-cylinder engine, it was a successful competition machine. Its lightweight design and consistent 70mm x 64mm bore and stroke defined its performance across these years. The 1974 TY250A initially delivered 16 horsepower, featuring a reed valve carburetor and a 6:1 compression ratio. While the core engine displacement remained constant, models from 1975 onwards (TY250B, C, D) were noted to be "noticeably more powerful" than the 1974 version, indicating internal refinements. Regional variations were also common, with models like the TY250J in Japan equipped for road use, and different model numbers (e.g., 434, 493, 516) signifying specific market configurations. A 350cc conversion was offered in France in 1978 for some Type 516 models, but this was a post-production modification, not a factory trim. Q: Are the parts on this page compatible with my Yamaha TY250?
