This specific model year features a reliable Rotax single-cylinder 292 cc engine, generally producing around 20 horsepower. For 1972, the Elan lineup included the Elan 250, Elan 250E (with electric start), and the new Elan 292 SS. The 1972 model year marked significant mid-cycle updates for the Elan.
