The 440cc SS model introduced a new design with a long-travel aluminum slide rail rear suspension and a direct-drive power transmission system. For 1982, the 340cc base model was discontinued, leaving the Cutlass SS 440 as the primary offering, which carried over the same engine and innovative features from 1981.
