Vehicle Information
Ski-Doo Skandic 550 Snowmobile (2004-2020)
The Ski-Doo Skandic 550 is a robust utility snowmobile, powered by the Rotax 550F engine, a 553.4cc fan-cooled two-stroke twin-cylinder producing approximately 60 horsepower. This model was offered from 2004 to 2020, positioning itself as a reliable choice for work and trail recreation. While the 550F engine remained consistent during this period, the platforms evolved. Earlier models utilized the REV platform (up to 2008), known for its rider-forward design. Subsequently, many Skandic 550F models transitioned to the REV-XU platform (from around 2011-2012), engineered for increased ruggedness with an aluminum chassis and improved suspensions for better flotation and pulling power. Trims included the Skandic WT (Wide Track), SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle), and SWT (Super Wide Track), as well as various Tundra derivatives (LT, Sport). The 550F engine was generally not paired with the REV Gen4 platform, which emerged later with more powerful engines. FAQ:

Maintenance
| Component | Interval | Details |
| Oil (2-Stroke Injection Oil) | Check before every ride | Keep the reservoir full. Use high-quality 2-stroke injection oil (TC-W3 or manufacturer-specific). The 2-stroke engine does not have a traditional oil filter. |
| Chaincase Oil | Annually or every 3,200 km | Ideally replace at the end of the season. Adjust chain tension when changing oil. |
| Drive Belt | Visually inspect before every ride. Replace if worn (generally between 2,400 and 4,800 km). | Look for signs of wear (cracking, fraying). Remove belt dust from clutch faces annually. |
| Spark Plugs | Replace before the season for moderate use; more frequently for hard use. | Consult the manual for exact specifications and gap. |
| Air Filter | Periodically | Shake snow and remove to dry. |
| Coolant | Check before the season and occasionally. Flush and replace every 4 to 5 years. | Level should be at the "cold" line. Inspect for leaks. |
