Vehicle Information
Ski-Doo GTX 500 Snowmobile (2005-2009)
The Ski-Doo GTX 500SS, available from 2005 to 2009, was a popular snowmobile known for its luxury touring characteristics. Throughout these years, it consistently featured a 597cc, liquid-cooled, horizontal in-line, reed valve, 2-stroke engine, producing approximately 105 horsepower. The primary trim offered was the GTX 500SS Sport, though the broader GTX line included other models with varying features. A significant mid-cycle update occurred in 2009. From 2005 to 2008, the GTX 500SS Sport models were built on the original REV chassis with an SC-4 rear suspension. For the 2009 model year, the GTX Sport 500 SS transitioned to the more advanced REV-XR chassis, a variation of the lighter REV-XP, designed for enhanced comfort and touring capabilities. This update also included an upgrade to the SC-5 rear suspension. The 597cc engine itself remained largely unchanged across all model years. FAQ:
Q: How can I ensure this part fits my Ski-Doo GTX 500?

Maintenance
| Component | Interval | Details |
| Oil (2-stroke engine) | Before every ride | Check the oil injection reservoir level and fill as needed. Low oil can severely damage the engine. |
| Drive Belt | Every 50 hours | Inspect the belt for damage, separation, glazing, or excessive wear. Typical lifespan is 2 500 to 5 000 km. A new belt requires a 50 km break-in period without hard acceleration. |
| Spark Plugs | At the start of each season | Replace spark plugs. New spark plugs may be required if the engine is flooded. |
| Air Filter | At the start of each season | Replace the air filter. |
| Coolant | Before every ride and every 2 years | Check level when cold before every ride. Replace coolant every 2 years. Use manufacturer-specified coolant. |
| Break-In Inspection | After the first 10 hours or 500 km | Have an authorized Ski-Doo dealer perform an inspection for new snowmobiles. |
