It featured a consistent 499cc liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, single-cylinder engine with 4 valves throughout this production period. The core model was the Magnum 500, commonly available with a 4x4 drivetrain. Specific variants, such as the "Magnum 500 4x4, HDS" (Heavy Duty Suspension), were offered in 2000 and 2003, providing targeted enhancements. Notable changes occurred within these model years. In 2000, the "Polaris Shaft Ride System" was introduced, improving traction and increasing towing capacity to 556 kg for models from that year onward. By 2003, a new drum-shift transmission with a "Park" setting was added, enhancing convenience and durability.
