Honda CR500R Dirt Bike (1984-2001)
The Honda CR500R, produced from 1984 to 2001, is a legendary two-stroke, single-cylinder dirt bike renowned for its immense power. It was offered as a single model, with yearly updates rather than distinct trim levels. Its engine displacement remained consistently around 491cc throughout its production. The CR500R underwent significant evolution. The 1984 model was air-cooled with a rear drum brake. A major shift occurred in 1985 with the introduction of water-cooling. In 1987, the rear drum brake was replaced by a disc brake, and front forks were upgraded. Further refinements in 1989 included a redesigned cylinder head and the adoption of upside-down forks. From 1993 onwards, development slowed, and horsepower was intentionally “mellowed out” to approximately 56 hp, partly due to the discontinuation of AMA 500 motocross races.
