Vehicle Information
Suzuki RMX250 Motorcycle - Dual-Sport (1989-1998)
The Suzuki RMX250, produced from 1989 to 1998, was a renowned two-stroke, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder off-road and enduro motorcycle. Throughout its production, it consistently featured a 249cc engine, positioned as a versatile machine for trail riding and competitive enduro. While maintaining its core identity, the RMX250 underwent several significant refinements. The 1989 model, based on the RM250 motocross platform, introduced off-road specific modifications and inverted front forks. Subsequent years saw updates to the clutch, power valve system, and suspension. A notable shift occurred in 1991 with a change to 45mm front forks and a new swingarm, followed by engine tuning improvements in 1993 for better stock power delivery. In 1995, the model returned to conventional front forks. The primary trims were the RMX250 and RMX250S, with the "S" often indicating a more restricted, street-legal specification. Q: Will this part fit my specific Suzuki RMX250?
A: To ensure perfect compatibility, please use the year and edition selector at the top of this page. This will filter parts specifically designed for your model.
Maintenance
| Component | Interval | Details |
| Engine Oil (Transmission Oil for 2-strokes) | Every 5 to 15 hours or, for some later production models, initially at 1 000 km, then every 10 000 km. | Change more frequently (5-10 h) for aggressive or race-level riding. For recreational riding, change every 10-15 h. Kilometric intervals are specific to 1998 RMX250S models. |
| Oil Filter | During each transmission oil change | Two-stroke engines do not have a traditional engine oil filter. Inspect and clean the transmission screen or mesh filter. |
| Spark Plug | Inspect regularly, replace as needed | Check condition, electrode color, and carbon deposits. Standard gap is 0.5-0.6 mm. |
| Air Filter | Every 5 to 15 hours | Clean and re-oil more frequently (5 h) for aggressive or race-level riding. For recreational riding, clean and re-oil every 10-15 h. Replace element as necessary. |
| Coolant | Every 2 years or 20-40 hours | Check level before every ride. Replace annually if riding aggressively, in muddy conditions, or after extended storage. Radiator hoses should be replaced every 4 years. |
