Vehicle Information
Suzuki DR500 Motorcycle - Dual-Sport (1981-1983)
The Suzuki DR500, produced from 1981 to 1983, was a robust single-cylinder, four-stroke motorcycle. Throughout its production, the primary model was the DR500 S, with the 1981 version also known as the DR500X. This air-cooled machine featured a consistent 498 ccm engine displacement across all model years. Significant changes occurred during its short run. For 1981, an entirely new 498 ccm engine was introduced, featuring a longer stroke, counterbalancers to reduce vibration, a chain-driven SOHC, four valves, and Suzuki's TSCC system. In 1982, the distinct square headlight of the 1981 model was replaced with a circular headlight, altering the bike's front appearance. The 1983 model year saw no further major changes before the DR500 series concluded its production. FAQ:
