Vehicle Information
Yamaha Radian 600 Motorcycle - Street (1986-1990)
The Yamaha Radian 600 (model YX600), produced from 1986 to 1990, was a versatile sport/touring or "standard" motorcycle. Known for its "parts-bin" construction, it utilized components from other Yamaha models to offer an affordable and enjoyable ride. It featured a four-stroke, transverse four-cylinder, DOHC, air-cooled engine with 4 valves per cylinder, displacing 599 cc (or 598 cc). This engine delivered a claimed 66 hp (49.2 kW) at 9500 rpm and 51.9 Nm (38.3 ft-lbs) of torque at 7500 rpm. The Radian 600 was offered as a single model, the YX600 Radian, without distinct trim levels. Its styling was a modernized take on the Universal Japanese Motorcycle (UJM). The Radian's engine was derived from the Yamaha XJ600 but was slightly detuned for improved low-end and mid-range torque through smaller carburetors, a recalibrated exhaust, and revised intake-cam timing. The frame was adapted from the XJ550 Maxim, reinforced for the 600cc engine. Throughout its 1986-1990 production, Yamaha made very few changes. The only notable mid-cycle alteration occurred in 1989, when the alternator was relocated from behind the cylinder bank to the left end of the crankshaft. FAQ:
