Vehicle Information
Yamaha YZF1000R Motorcycle - Street (1997)
The 1997 Yamaha YZF1000R, known as the Thunderace, was a powerful sportbike positioned between the FZR1000 EXUP and the iconic YZF-R1. For its single model year in the US, it featured a 1002 cc, four-stroke, transverse four-cylinder DOHC engine with 5 valves per cylinder, delivering 145 hp at 10,000 rpm. It was available in red/white/black or all-black. Although the YZF1000R was produced globally from 1996 to 2005, the 1997 model year saw several key enhancements to its Genesis engine, derived from the FZR1000 EXUP. These updates, aimed at improving mid-range power and throttle response, included lighter crankshaft and pistons, new carburetors with Throttle Position Sensors for better EXUP valve control, and increased adjustability for the front forks. These modifications ensured the 1997 Thunderace offered refined performance. Q: How do I find parts for my 1997 Yamaha YZF1000R?
